There are several different types of kites, each for a different purpose. I’m sure you’ve seen the kids using the toy diamond-shaped kites. Large single-line kites are sometimes used to advertise events, and there is also competitive kiting with line used to cut a competitor’s line. There are also dual-line deltas for free-style or competition flying, stacked dual-lines, four-line kites, power kites, and then there are buggy and kite-surfing kites. I suppose you could consider parachuting as a form of kiting too!

I fly free-style dual-lines myself, and I don’t know if I will ever master all of the tricks you can do with those. It’s not your grandfather’s kiting world at all, things have come a long way.
